Fulfill the Debt of Love

Romans 13:8 (NIV) Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.

We all know that it is important to get out and stay out of debt where our finances are concerned. But we have another debt that most people don’t consider a debt. It is the debt of love that we owe our fellowman. We are supposed to love other people in word and in deed. Some people are easy to love. We like being around those kinds of people. It takes very little effort on our part to love them. Then there are those who are hard to love. We all have some of those people in our lives. I think God puts those people in our lives just to improve our love walk. It doesn’t come easy to love them so we have to work at it. It is right and pleases God when we practice loving the unlovely. We do that by first deciding that we must love them, then ask God what is the best way to do that. Some people just want to be listened to, some could use some home baked cookies. There are many ways to show someone that we care. It will be different for different people. We can’t just say that we will pray for them and that is loving them. Praying for them is right, but love displays itself in its actions. The other person should be able to tell that you love them, whether they would admit it or not. The more we practice the better we get at it and the debt will always be paid in full.
